CONCEPTUAL COLLEGE MATH

EDUC 391X - Engineering Education & Online Learning (Spring 2015)

This project was a prototype for teaching introductory college mathematics more conceptually. A huge problem in math education in general is a focus on memorization and speed over deep conceptual understanding. For many students, this problem becomes even worse in college when they leave behind their relatively small high school math classes for enormous, impersonal lectures.

The prototype here explicitly taught the connection between properties of 3D surfaces in multi-variable calculus and their visual representations. It applied learning science principles through an adaptive learning engine, which guides you to questions with an appropriate level of scaffolding based on your performance in the module.
